Grace’s Story
Grace, a young Irish woman, underwent an involuntary sterilization procedure while under anesthesia, administered by the Irish National Health System. Following her disclosure of this violation, she was relocated to an institution where her basic liberties were significantly curtailed.

At present, she is denied the freedom to socialize with friends and her romantic partner. The primary mission of “Liberate Grace” is to expose and legally challenge the negligence and physical abuse inflicted upon Grace by staff within hospitals under the Irish National Health System (HSE).


Objectives
The website of “Liberate Grace” is designed to heighten awareness among civil society and the political bodies of European nations, with the aim of ensuring the protection of Grace’s fundamental rights as stipulated by the European Union.

The primary objective of “Liberate Grace” is to eradicate all forms of discrimination endured by Grace, thereby ensuring her access to the rights and freedoms enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights. This convention was incorporated into Irish law through the enactment of the “European Convention on Human Rights Act 2003”.

To prevent recurrence of such physical and psychological abuses, “Liberate Grace” intends to hold accountable any individuals found in violation of the European Convention on Human Rights. This would involve bringing cases before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, and before the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg for breaches of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

“Liberate Grace” collaborates with civil society organizations and local communities across several European countries, all dedicated to the principles of social justice, human rights, and democracy. One way to support Grace and contribute to the “Liberate Grace” initiative is by becoming a member of “Grace’s Friends”. This group serves as a crucial conduit between the work of “Liberate Grace” and the wider world, embodying and promoting the civil and moral values that underpin “Liberate Grace’s” mission to safeguard and respect Grace, as well as all women subjected to daily violence.

There are multiple avenues through which one can assist Grace and endorse the “Liberate Grace” campaign. A straightforward method of supporting “Liberate Grace” is by contributing financially to a specific action orchestrated by its volunteers, as detailed in the “Action Plans” section of the “Liberate Grace” website.
