Components of the Course
The CLS’ intellectual property course aims to protect engineers and their inventions from infringement and unfair competition. The discipline is based on the Constitution and encompasses patent application, research and prosecution. It also includes infringement law, protecting computer applications and software, and patenting hardware.
The course is divided into six lessons, namely, introduction to intellectual property law, the business of IP, utility design and plant patents, conducting a patent search, patent application, and protecting yourself in IP matters.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the participants will be equipped with information to protect their invention/idea. The course should help participants be familiar with the various types of intellectual property and patents and display a basic understanding of disclosure and confidentiality agreements.
