Irving, TX – Las Colinas Cancer Center provides Mammosite Therapy to their Breast cancer patients, which is one of the leading therapies in breast cancer care today.

Las Colinas Cancer Center, one of the leading cancer care centers in North Texas, has made a commitment to cutting-edge breast cancer care by offering MammoSite Targeted Radiation Therapy - one of the leading therapies in breast cancer care today. Providing women with a faster, highly effective means to treating breast cancer, MammoSite therapy received FDA approval in 2002 and has fast become one of the most exciting treatment options for women around the country. Las Colinas Cancer Center is proud to offer this treatment option for their patients.

“There are few people who have not been touched in some way by breast cancer in their lifetime,” says Dr. Gregory Echt, radiation oncologist and founder of Las Colinas Cancer Center. “As a team, we have made a commitment to stay at the forefront of breast cancer care so that we can provide truly effective and manageable options for women who are faced with a breast cancer diagnosis. MammoSite therapy is one of the truly exciting options that we are proud to bring to the table for our patients.”

MammoSite therapy is performed immediately following a lumpectomy. Once the cancer tumor is removed, a deflated MammoSite therapy balloon - with a thin catheter attached - is inserted into the cavity through a very small incision. Once it is inserted, the balloon is filled with saline solution through the catheter. The incision is closed but a small piece of the catheter remains outside the incision through which radiation seeds are inserted throughout treatment.

Therapy only takes five days - making it a much shorter treatment option than other conventional therapies - after which the balloon is removed. Treatment through MammoSite therapy also allows the patient to continue with their daily activities. For busy women on the go, being able to continue with as normal a schedule as possible is often a benefit to their emotional wellbeing - something that Dr. Echt believes is extremely important.

“Our patients’ physical and emotional comfort is very important to us,” says Dr. Echt. “We want treatment to be effective of course - but also manageable and the least overwhelming for our patients as possible. MammoSite therapy accomplishes this and much more.”
