A social worker and philanthropist known for his social work and support to various non-profit organisations, Suhel Seth is quite well known for his upliftment work. He conducts this social work in personal capacity and through his company Counselage. He is also the Chairman of Ila Trust which healthcare NGO in Delhi providing complementary health check-ups and medical care to the underprivileged. In his endeavour to strengthen the healthcare system for the needy in India, he is also a board member of the Max Foundation. This foundation works towards providing access to cancer treatment globally. In addition to this, Seth is on the advisory board at the IHIF - Indian Head Injury Foundation. This again is a part of his healthcare endeavour that is working towards building brain trauma care systems in India.

What makes the Partition Museum so special to Suhel Seth

One of Seth’s major contribution has been to the partition museum which was established in 2017 in Amritsar. He was a prominent donor and individually contributed Rs. 50 lakhs to a gallery in the museum which was dedicated to his parents – Jogendra Seth and Shub Seth.

This made the Indian advertising stalwart and writer, Suhel Seth one of the biggest individual donors who offered their financial and moral support to India’s first Partition Museum at Amritsar Town Hall in Punjab. He strongly felt that the manner in which the partition of 1947 ended up affecting Punjab, Bengal and the entire world in unimaginable ways – the ramification of which continue till today. Since this is the only exclusive museum globally dedicated to the partition of 1947, it was close to Seth’s heart.

A little about the partition museum

The Partition Museum is a project which has been funded end to end through donations of made by the public, which were raised by Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust a U.K. based organization. This museum boasts of bringing in over 1000 visitors every day since it was inaugurated in October 2016.

According to the museum committee, most of the visitors have survived the partition or are families of people that were lost in the partition, foreign tourists, tourists from all over India and VIPs. The museum gets a lot of memorabilia from families that were affected by the partition. These include phulkaris (a material special to this area), letters, books, utensil etc dated back to the partition.

Seth’s donation, fulfils his long-standing desire to honour the home-town of his parents, where they have their roots. His parents are from Amritsar making this city hold a special place in Seth’s heart. The partition museum exhibits a collection of documents, oral histories and memorabilia honouring and reliving the biggest migration the world witnessed making it a one of a kind museum, invaluable and special to everyone around the work as well a rich source of enlightenment for scholars and academics.
