(Sedona, Arizona – April 2013)
Known for its passion in supporting community causes, the Hillside Sedona supports and promotes this month’s event—The Umbrella Project. Slated on April 26-28, 2013, this volunteer-based project involves children painting themed designs on plain white umbrellas with the use of multi-colored fabric markers.

The Umbrella Project was started by Hilda Brown in 1990 after she lost a favorite brown umbrella given to her by her brother. According to Ms Brown, she searched hard for her favorite umbrella and when she failed to find it she was inspired to create a more colorful on in its place.

Hillside Sedona supports The Umbrella Project’s goal of fostering global unity and solidarity through the creativity of children across the globe. This goal reflects Hillside Sedona’s principle of giving back to the community. The Umbrella Project has held its events not only in different States but also around the world including Russia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Italy, Angola, and in other nations of the world.

Aside from The Umbrella Project, Hillside Sedona has also been involved with Boys and Girls Club, Verde Valley Sanctuary, ZTA, Cancer Centers of Northern Arizona, Humane Society of Sedona, Special Olympics, Camp Soaring Eagle, and local food banks.
