Es gibt jedoch eine noch leistungsfähigere Variante des HP Envy 13, die für Videobearbeitung, mobiles Arbeiten und sogar leichteres Gaming durchaus geeignet ist. Die mit einem Preis von 1200 Euro recht günstige Höchstausstattung bietet einen schnelleren Intel Core i7-7500U-Prozessor und eine Nvidia GeForce MX150-Grafikkarte mit 2 Gigabyte an dedizierten Videospeicher. Während wir das HP Envy 13 in dieser Konfiguration nicht testen konnten, dürften aktuelle Top-Games sogar mit einer Auflösung von 1600 x 900 mit niedrigen bis mittleren Einstellungen flüssig spielbar sein. 4K-Videobearbeitung wird damit ebenfalls unserer Erfahrung nach möglich sein.

HP verspricht bei beiden Modellen eine Laufzeit von bis zu 12 Stunden und verspricht damit etwas zu viel, wie es bei allen Herstellern üblich ist. Insgesamt kommt ihr im Alltag auf knapp über 9 Stunden bei mittlerer Helligkeit und durchschnittlicher Nutzung, sprich dem Surfen im Internet und der Verwendung einfacherer Messaging-Programme und Apps. Bei höchster Helligkeit und voller Last bekommt ihr knappe zwei Stunden vom HP Envy 13.Während das HP Envy 13 zwar über zwei USB Typ-C Anschlüsse verfügt, kann es leider über keinen davon aufgeladen werden. Stattdessen muss HPs proprietärer Stecker verwendet werden. Laut HP unterstützt das Envy 13 dafür jedoch Fast Charge, womit das Notebook binnen eineinhalb Stunden zu 90 Prozent aufgeladen werden kann. Das sollte heutzutage allerdings nicht schnell, sondern der Standard sein.

Das HP Envy 13 ist ein wirklich wundervolles Notebook. Es fasst perfekt zusammen, was die Hersteller richtig gemacht haben, um Apple die Vorreiterrolle im Premium-Laptop-Markt abzuknöpfen. HPs Laptop-Flaggschiff macht einfach wenig falsch und es ist gar nicht so, als hätte man nichts riskiert. Beim Design hat man sich bemüht, herausragend zu sein, die Verarbeitung ist toll und die gesamte Qualität des Produkts ist sehr gut. Es gibt keinen offensichtlichen Deal-Breaker, wie die zahllosen kleinen Mängel des Surface Laptop, der Preis ist fair und die Leistung passt. Preislich ist das HP Envy 13 identisch zur Windows-Konkurrenz in dem Bereich angesiedelt, doch der „Straßenpreis“ des HP-Laptops ist dann doch etwas höher. Während ein neues ASUS ZenBook UX310UA mit Core i5, 8 GB RAM und 256 GB SSD für 899 Euro den Besitzer wechselt, muss man für ein aus technischer Sicht geringfügig schwächeres HP Envy 13 mit DDR3-RAM etwa 955 Euro berappen. Bei der Akkulaufzeit befinden sich beide Geräte auf Augenhöhe, doch das ZenBook hat sogar noch einen HDMI-Anschluss. Das ZenBook ist praktischer, aber einfach nicht so schön.
