Youth basketball and softball coach Stephen Souky celebrates a season of wins and reflects on his coaching experience.

Coach Stephen Souky is pleased to announce a season of wins for the teams that he coaches, and he recently reflected on his extensive coaching experience. A long time resident of Upstate New York, Stephen Souky has spent his time since college helping develop local girls’ sports teams.
“I think that sports are one of the best ways for young girls to develop confidence and form a healthy relationship with fitness, and I’m very pleased to have been a part of that as a coach,” said Stephen Souky. “This season was great for my teams, too, as we brought home a number of wins. The St. Paul’s CYO basketball team did especially well and finished out the season undefeated after 21 games.”
Stephen Souky played basketball in high school and college, and has recently taken on coaching full-time with a variety of teams. Coach Stephen Souky has led the Mohawk Valley Heat (which he founded), the Saratoga Sparks, the Saint Paul CYO team, and the Biddy B side of the Niskayuna Girls Travel Basketball Team. Outside of basketball, Stephen Souky is also an ACE certified softball coach, and is the head coach for the Niskayuna Girls Travel Softball Team, as well as the league coordinator.
Remarked Stephen Souky, “Coaching has given me the opportunity to help girls and young women build self-esteem and leadership skills, which is extremely important in a world that tries to minimize girls’ achievements or make them feel doubt about what they’re capable of doing.” Health and fitness are also a focus for Stephen Souky. “I think it’s important for young women to see sports and fitness as something they do for fun, something that’s rewarding and a source of positive pride, rather than something they’re doing to look a certain way or see a certain number on a scale.” Young girls in the Niskayuna area are certainly benefiting from Stephen Souky’s view of sports, teamwork, leadership, and health.
Stephen Souky was an all star basketball player at Linton High School until 1988, when he began college at SUNY Fredonia. There, Stephen Souky played as a forward, and graduated with a bachelor of science in accounting in 1992.
