Kevin Gofron discusses how he began supporting the Illinois Bass Anglers Kids’ Fishing Days, now 10 years ago.

Kevin Gofron is an esteemed professional in the label making business with Avery Dennison Corporation. Outside of work, Kevin Gofron has a long-standing hobby of competitive and recreational bass fishing. Kevin Gofron does not only enjoy fishing himself, however. For Kevin Gofron, being a part of the fishing community means being giving back by supporting young people at Illinois Bass Anglers Kids’ Fishing Days for the past 10 years.

Kevin Gofron was first acknowledged at the Kids’ Fishing Day in 2003, which was attended by almost 40 children and their families. Kevin Gofron is great with kids, and he loves to be involved in these events. “There’s a simple joy in teaching children to catch bass,” explains Kevin Gofron. “That first time in 2003, all but two of the kids caught at least one fish, and many of them had never held a fishing rod before in their lives. It was such a fun, magical day.”

Kevin Gofron was notably involved again in 2006 for another Kids’ Fishing Day. “Some of the kids come back year to year, and their families have taken them out on the water between the events. It’s great because you can see how much they’ve improved, and they love to show off their new skills as they get better year to year,” says Kevin Gofron.

The Illinois Bass Anglers Association, of which Kevin Gofron has been an active member for 10 years, is a group of Illinois anglers who are truly devoted to the enjoyment and wellbeing of young children. In fact, Kevin Gofron is proud to be a part of an organization that continually supports such charities as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants the wishes of children who suffer from life-threatening illnesses.

The Illinois Bass Anglers Association also hosts youth fishing competitions, which are catch-and-release. Kevin Gofron believes that it is never too early to start fishing. Kevin Gofron, whose advice comes from the experiences that he has had with the association’s Kids’ Fishing Day events, says, “Get started young. If you are an adult with children, bring your kids out for a great day on the water. Bring the whole family out. You won’t regret it.”
