New Delhi: Ketomac is a brand of medicated products made and retailed by Chandigarh based Torque Pharmaceuticals. Its main product is Ketomac shampoo, a highly effective medicated anti-dandruff shampoo.
Ketomac is fundamentally a concoction containing Ketoconazole, which is a broad spectrum, synthetic, anti-fungal agent in an aqueous concentration of 2% in cream or shampoo. This shampoo/cream is used for topical application. It works as a dry scalp dandruff shampoo as well as for wet scalp.

Ketoconazole is an azole anti-fungal which works by preventing the growth of fungus. It belongs to the same family of drugs like itraconazole, fluconazole and miconazole. It works by killing fungi on the skin called as Malassezia. Malassezia occurs on the skin naturally, but for people with dandruff, this fungus exists in excess.
The medication works by interfering with the synthesis of Ergosterol which is a vital constituent of fungal cell membranes. This weakens the cell membranes, and holes start appearing in them. This weak and punctured cell membrane allows its constituents to leak out, causing the death of the cell.

The shampoo is used for preventing and treating dandruff. It treats itching, scaling, flaking, and also prevents and treats inflammation caused by dandruff. The cream and shampoo may be used for treating other conditions as prescribed by your physician. Ketomac shampoo is easy to use. “Wet hair and scalp thoroughly. Apply a small quantity of the shampoo to your scalp and massage into a lather. Leave for 5 to 10 minutes and then, rinse the scalp thoroughly. Use it twice a week for four weeks. After clearing of scalp from dandruff, use Ketomac shampoo once a week to avoid re-occurrence of dandruff and for a clean and clear scalp. In case you stop using the shampoo completely, there is likelihood for dandruff to reappear,” said an executive.

Store the shampoo in a dry, dark and cool place. The shampoo manifests contra-indications in persons, who are hyper-sensitive to any active ingredients in this medical formulation.

The shampoo may be irksome to mucous membranes of the eyes and you should make sure to avoid contact with the eyes. In case shampoo affects the eyes, rinse gently with clean water. If a chemical irritation or sensitive reaction occurs, use of shampoo must be stopped, and physician must be contacted. But generally side –effects of this shampoo is rare.
