What ‘being-well’ is and how our life is impacted by it

‘Being- well’ is something we do rather than something we are. The things we do and the way we think can have a big impact on our experience!

Wellbeing has many components, such as mental, psychological, social, emotional, and spiritual. Social wellbeing is a sense of belonging to a community and making a contribution to society. Emotional wellbeing means feeling good. Being happy, experiencing positive emotions like love, joy or compassion, and feeling generally satisfied with life. Spiritual wellbeing can include feeling connected to a higher power, a sense of meaning or purpose or feelings of peace or transcendence.

Wellbeing Australia is a not-for-profit public company, which deals with feelings of happiness, contentment, enjoyment, curiosity and engagement with their community. Equally important to wellbeing, is our capacity to psychologically function well in the world. Maintaining positive relationships is having some control over one’s life and having a sense of purpose, self-esteem and self-confidence.
Wellbeing does not mean that we never experience feelings or situations that we find difficult, but it does mean that we feel we can cope with tough times.

Types of wellbeing include a number of different aspects:

1. Autonomy: the freedom to make our own decisions
2. Self-acceptance: satisfaction or happiness with oneself. This includes an awareness of one’s strengths and weaknesses.
3. Mastery: the ability to manage everyday situations.
4. Positive relationships with family, friends or others.
5. Personal growth: facing challenges that are manageable and lead to developing new skills or becoming a better person.

A life coach encourages and counsels clients on a range of professional and personal issues to maintain the condition of being well. Life coaching is distinct from giving advice, consulting, counseling, mentoring and administering therapy. A coach helps you grow by analyzing our current situation, identifying limiting beliefs and other potential challenges and obstacles we face and devising a custom plan of action designed to help us achieve specific outcomes in our life.

The relationship between a client and their lifestyle coach is a creative partnership that seeks to identify, clarify and create a vision for what the client wants, use coach’s expertise to modify goals as needed and foster client accountability to increase productivity.
