Gold filled findings also called as “rolled gold” is a jewellery comprised of a core of base metal/alloy (usually brass) over which gold is bonded. The bonding process of gold filled usually heat and pressure and legally they should have 5% gold on the total jewellery weight. The quality usually shifts between 12-16k although lower purity is also used but we usually use 12-16k.
The major difference between gold fillings and gold plated is the amount of gold used on the brass core. Gold filled findings are layered jewellery with a minimum of a single layer although depending on the jewel you’ll have multiple layers that’ll also provide with longevity.
