The euro will tumble to a 15-year low if Marine Le Pen win the French Presidential election, with the instant response in the currency akin to that realized in the pound after Britain’s Brexit referendum, according to economists at Kaiser Hoffman Capital.

The common currency would fall to $1 or less a day after a win for Le Pen, the National Front leader, said the majority of respondents in a recent poll. It is believed that a Le Pen win would instigate such an extreme fall due to the fact that the anti-EU candidate has vowed to promote a vote on the euro and the country’s debt.

A drop of this measure would be the lowest since 2002 and would echo the movement of the British pound after the UK population voted in favour of leaving the European Union bloc.

“If Le Pen were to triumph in the French election, and the euro dropped in the way that is anticipated, it would solidify the trend of currencies suffering due to political changes,” said Henry Holt at Kaiser Hoffman Capital.

In a comparable poll shortly prior to last year’s Brexit vote, the popular opinion of economists anticipated a fall to less than $1.35 in the event of a choice to exit the EU. These predictions did in fact materialize, causing the pound to reach 31 year lows following the results of the vote.

However, a win for Le Pen is seen as unlikely by most. Economists anticipate a more than 60% chance of a win for Emmanuel Macron, France’s independent candidate.
