According to the EU’s top court, European Union nations can refuse admission to refugees and asylum seekers if they have any associations with terrorist actions.

“The ruling comes mere days after Trump enacted a block against citizens from predominantly Muslim nations,” said Henry Holt at Kaiser Hoffman Capital.

On Tuesday the European Union Court of Justice in Luxembourg decided that EU nations could substantiate rejecting persons who committed terrorist deeds, or who were involved implicitly in the organization or planning of such deeds.

The court stated in a press release that a request for refuge could be precluded if the refugee has partaken in the undertakings of a terrorist group. The statement also revealed that it was not required that the asylum seeker be directly responsible or accountable for terrorist activities to be denied asylum.

The decision comes less than a week after recently sworn in president Trump signed an executive order banningpeople from seven primarily Muslim nations, including Syria, Iran and Yemen, from entering America for 3 months. The order has caused a worldwide uproar with global leaders, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemning such activities under the guise of fighting terrorism.

The EU court’s ruling last week had been raised from Belgium with questions linked to the request for asylum by a Moroccan national, who had in the past been found guilty for taking part in the actions of a terrorist network. In March, of 2016 more than 30 people died when a Brussels airport and train station were targeted by terrorist attacks.

The specifics in that case are of special significance due to the man’s conviction according to the EU court who stated that past actions must be taken into account when assessing each individual.
