The ultimate goal of applying the foundation is to maintain a proper base for the rest of the makeup. We apply foundation to make our skin glow, hide the blemish, blur the wrinkles and lines over the face. Applying foundation is not a tough task but knowing the right way is very important because applying foundation in the wrong way will result like a chalky mask applied on the face.

Before learning how to apply foundation you should make a right choice of foundation depending upon your skin tone and skin type.

1. KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE AND PICK A PRODUCT ACCORDINGLY-

First focus on knowing your skin type. You should know whether you have a dry, oily, normal or combination skin. After knowing the skin type jump to the decision of which foundation is best for you. There are many foundations which are especially for a particular skin type.

2. CHOOSE THE RIGHT FOUNDATION COLOUR ACCORDING TO THE SKIN TONE-

As your foundation is the basis for the rest of the makeup. So you should wisely choose the foundation shade which should not appear odd while you apply it on.

Before starting with your foundation application you should prepare your skin by-

1. CLEAN THE DIRT OFF YOUR FACE-

The first thing you should do is to wash your face properly. Washing the face will remove the dirt, excess oil and previous makeup. You can use cleansing milk for cleaning your face. You can also opt for mud mask or charcoal mask to remove all the dirt and oil as they open the skin pores as well. If you have sensitive skin then you should go for cleansing milk as they have less water and more nourishing agent.

2. EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN-

Uneven or flaky skin will result in uneven application of makeup so you should scrub your face in order to remove the dead cells and dead skin off your face.

3. APPLY MOISTURIZER-

After scrubbing you should always apply a moisturizer with Spf 15 or above to stay protected from the sun rays. Applying it will help the skin to glow. If you have dry skin apply a creamy moisturizer and if you have oily skin choose a gel-based moisturizer.

4. APPLY PRIMER-

Primer gives you glowing skin and also helps the makeup to stick to the skin. Primer reduces the look of pores in the skin. Apply the primer with your fingers for proper application.

5. COLOR-CORRECT YOUR SKIN-

Before applying foundation you should color correct the blemishes, dark circles and uneven skin tone patches on your face. There are different color correctors for different issues. The color correctors available are pink, peach, orangy-pink, yellow, green, lavender.

6. START APPLYING WITH SMALL AMOUNT OF FOUNDATION-

The best way is to start applying with a small amount of the foundation. Dab the foundation on your forehead, under the eyes, nose, cheeks, and chin in a small amount. Add more if required.

7. UNROLL THE FOUNDATION OUTWARDS-

Start spreading the foundation outwards that is towards the neck and hairline. For spreading the foundation you can use either brush, fingers or sponge. Make sure you tap the foundation in your skin don't rub or wipe with your hands. Usage of sponge, fingers, and brush depends on the coverage you want.

If you want light coverage, use your fingers.

If you want medium and even coverage, use brushes. Tap foundation in a circular motion with the brush.
If you want more coverage then toy should use a sponge.

Make sure you wash the brushes and sponge after every use to avoid any bacterial infections.

8. BLEND THE FOUNDATION-

Now blend the foundation properly to cover the facial lines and blemish marks. Foundation should be properly and smoothly blended around your face.

9. CONCEAL BLEMISHES-

Now it's the time to cover the pimples and blemishes on your skin. After foundation, you should use concealer over your pimples and marks. Apply a little amount of concealer over the required areas and blend it lightly with clean fingers, brush or sponge.

10. APPLY A SETTING POWDER OR SETTING SPRAY-

After you are done with your makeup use a setting spray or powder which helps your makeup to stay for long. This powder doesn't add on to your makeup because it is a transparent matte powder that just sets your makeup and prevents the foundation from sliding around.
