Josh Jambon has built a successful business that operates in the petroleum sector, an industry with a rich history.

One of the things that has always interested Josh Jambon is the history of the petroleum industry. Mr. Jambon has made a successful career as a business owner. This success has been in part due to the interest and passion he has in petroleum.

The petroleum industry is an old one, yet it still plays a huge role in societal politics, technology, and society. It was the invention of the internal combustion engine that would spark the rise of the petroleum industry, cementing its place as a central focal point for societal needs.

The early history of petroleum dates back over 4,000 years. That is because it has been found that asphalt (a form of petroleum) was used to construct walls and towers of Babylon. Ancient Persian tablets also elude to the medicinal use of petroleum. Upper levels of society during the time even burned petroleum for lighting.

Some of the earliest oil wells were being drilled in China around 347 AD. These wells were an estimated 800 feet deep, and were drilled using bits that were attached to bamboo poles. The oil was harvested and burned in order to evaporate brine and produce salt, a luxury commodity of the time.

The modern history of petroleum began around the 19th century, when it was discovered that kerosene could be refined from crude oil. A Scottish chemist discovered a natural petroleum seepage that distilled light, thin oil, and learned how to artificially manufacture it. This oil found many uses, including good lubricant for machinery, and a slow, reliable burn that made it a great lamp oil.

It was not long before commercial oil wells would start to be established. Once the internal combustion engine was created, demand for petroleum skyrocketed, creating a booming industry almost overnight. It was during this period that people would refer to oil as ‘black gold’. As it was similar to the gold rush experienced many years before.

Businessmen like Josh Jambon have found the history of petroleum to be a fascinating one. The growth of the industry and all the key players involved help turn it into the industry it is today.
