For creative and artistic folks, the world of creativity and imagination is endless. There is always a large platter of textures, styles, colors which can wow any and everyone around. As an art, quilting doesn’t stand away from such stances, but when it comes to choosing the right quilting fabic for your needs, the challenge has only just begun. When you walk into any of the stores to purchase quilt fabric, there would be an array of fabrics and patterns thrown out for you to see, patchwork fabric styles as well. It is thus difficult to choose one from the many options given, since all of them are so beautiful and unique. It may seem exigent and tedious, however, don’t take it for granted that you can choose just any fabric, this would be your base for making a masterpiece.

When choosing quilting fabic for your needs, there are certain things to bear in mind. Don’t just go by the looks and styles that you see on the surface, there is certainly much more that meets the eye, all underneath. Just as your would choose wisely for patchwork fabric, you have to take great care for quilt fabrics as well. The first thing then you would have to look into would be the material in question. Always go for fabrics made from cotton, say experts. And if this is your first time playing around with quilting, cotton surely allows you the leverage to do so.

Next what you need to check when choosing quilting fabic would be the grains of the fabric. Check the lengthwise and the crosswise interplay which are aligned sans the flaws, angled beautifully against one another to create awesome designs and patterns. Any cloth which is used for superior quilting purposes would have straight lines running on both sides. This would give you a right angled marking at the crossing of both lines. The weave should be perfect, not very loose or tight as well. Just as you would check for patchwork fabric, even with quilt fabric you would need to check for the weave, since rips and tears could happen. Moderately dense fabric wouldn’t ditch you and it helps you quilt well enough to create your masterpiece.

Also keep in mind when choosing quilting fabics, it shouldn’t be colorfast, which means the color shouldn’t run. The tints of the quilt should be able to preserve itself for a long time to come, hence just as you would check for this quality on patchwork fabrics, do the same for quilt fabrics as well. And since we are talking about colors here, why not focus on the color scheme as well. This is a major key in selecting quilt fabrics. Remember, the right combo of shades and colors chosen for the quilt can make a huge difference to the masterpiece being created.

Thumb rule for quilting fabic color scheme would be that blue should be taken to enhance coolness of the quilt, while yellow and reds should be for the warm looks. If you do choose black for the quilt fabric, it would dim the effect and on the other hand whites would brighten the piece. Whatever you choose to do with the moda quilt or patchwork fabric, ensure that it is stunning and intricate.
