Retro Era
The years from 1935 to 1950 are considered Retro period. Popular pieces of jewelry at that time were made by the Americans. Fashion jewellery during the Retro period evoked class, elegance, and glamour. Common designs include sunburst, bows, and flowers incorporated with Hollywood style. Popular motifs include horses, moonstones, ballerinas, and military influences.
Art Modern Era
The Art Modern era, which is post-World War II, showcased fashion jewellery designs which were understated and more conventional. From the 1950s to 1960s, the pieces of jewelry were lavish and bold. Topaz, citrine, charm bracelets, jade, opal, and chunky bracelets were very popular. Rhinestones were used in creating fashion jewellery. Christmas pins were also a favorite during this period.
Fashion jewellery which is a popular accessory of every man and woman today has gone through various evolutions. It started during the Art Deco period wherein Coco Chanel popularized costume jewelry. Around the time of the Retro era, American-made jewelry was an epitome of sophistication. During the Art Modern era, however, costume jewelry became traditional and minimal. Manufacturers of this type of jewelry are usually concentrated in India and China. With the popularity of the internet, retailers can also source their products from manufacturers’ websites.
