10th November 2011 - Wood Shutters are normally used in houses to protect the room of the houses from various types of external disturbances that comes through the windows. It is natural for those people who maintain their houses to expect a neat environment in their rooms. Often they get annoyed by the debris that flies and makes the room dirty through the open windows. One cannot always close the windows since there will be a problem in getting good air circulation as well as visible light.
Thus, there is a strong need to cover up the windows using something which gives protection from external weather, things etc. and at the same time it should allow the needed amount of air and light to enter the room through the windows. This work is obviously done by the shutters.
Shutters are used to cover up the windows and they are solid and stable in protecting the house from outside disturbances. It has horizontal rails and vertical stiles in a frame. Louvers are set in these frames. Generally house shutters are of two types. Interior shutters and exterior shutters. Interior shutters are hung from inside the house and as the name indicates exterior shutters are hung from outside the house.
In many houses shutters are used both in windows as well as doors. Shutters come with both fixed louvers and operable louvers. The shutters with operable louvers allows one to decide the amount of light and air that he wants inside the room and make those arrangements using operable louvers. This is a good advantage in operable louvered shutters. However, the shutters in those days that are traditional shutters were not equipped with operable louvers. They had fixed louvers. Though fixed louvers also provide protection as designed in the origin, it cannot offer the users with the option of deciding the amount of light or air entering the room.
The Wood Shutters which only cover the lower portion of the windows are called café type shutters. There are shutters with single tier unit and also with multiple tier units. Shutters also provide privacy to a house.
