Joe Palermo of Lake Charles has served his local Southwest Louisiana community well for more than fifty years. His many business dealings in the region are only part of his commitment to a better community. He is also active in many organizations, clubs, charities, and foundations.

Mr. Palermo has been an active member of the Airport Owners and Pilot's Association for twenty-three years. This affiliation has served him well as he has been flying planes since he was only seventeen years old. Over many decades he has acquired more than nine thousand hours of flight time and has experience in many types of airplanes and helicopters. He proudly boasts an Airline Transport rating and currently flies the EA500 Eclipse Jet and the Cessna models 210 and 310.

Since 1995, Mr. Palermo has sat on the Board of Directors for the National Science Center in Augusta, Georgia. This affiliation reaches back to his service in the United States Army in the mid-1960s. The National Science Center seeks to promote the services of Fort Discovery, an Army and civilian sponsored science museum and center for children.

Joe Palermo Lake Charles created the McNeese State University Palermo Professorships after graduating from the college himself. These professorships focus on special education and the need for added support in the College of Education.

He is also a member of the Tiger Jam Foundation, which later became known as the Tiger Woods Foundation. This group he co-sponsors with famous celebrities such as Kevin Costner and the late Glenn Frey. His role with this charity ties into his partnership with the Golf 4 Kids Foundation which helps boost the self-esteem of inner city children through sports.

While writing music is a hobby that Mr. Palermo has had for decades, he is also a published novelist. His book, The Prodigy was published through Liberty Press in 2002 and is still sold online through retailers like Amazon.com.

Joe Palermo of Lake Charles is a graduate of the McNeese State University who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He enjoys many hobbies in his free time, including golfing, bass fishing, duck hunting, and playing the guitar and drums.
