Checking the Quality of the Water Tank Float Valve of Your Caravan is Essential

Posted March 5, 2018 by Jobevalves

If you need the right quality service from the water tank float valve for a long while, then it is for sure that you will have to be careful about the proper use of the same as well as the proper maintenance.

Clean the Water tank float valve regularly and disinfect it. Especially at the beginning of the season when you take your boat or caravan out of the garage. Even after repairs to the drinking water installation, it is best to disinfect the tank and pipe.

This prevents unwanted bacteria and dirt in the Water tank float valve:

• Drain the tank completely and remove any deposits and debris.
• Fill the tank with a mixture of, for example, Hadex and fresh drinking water. Do this in the right proportion. This is mentioned on the packaging.
• Open the tap until the pipes are filled with the Hadex mixture.
• Leave the mixture in the tank and the pipes for 24 hours.

Then rinse the tank and pipes well a few times with clean and fresh drinking water.

Tip 2: Work hygienically

When filling the water tank float valve, it is important that you do not allow dirt or bacteria to enter the drinking water tank.

Therefore proceed as follows:

• Always work with clean hands.
• First rinse the filling hose well and clean the ends with soap or detergent.
• Cover the filling opening during filling to prevent dirt from falling into the tank.
• Allow the hose to drain completely after filling.
• Store the filling hose in a cool, dark room to prevent algae growth in the hose.
• Place the water tank in a cool, dark room to prevent bacterial growth.

Tip 3: Change your drinking water twice a week

Water in a tank is perishable and can become a source of bacteria. It is therefore advisable to change all the drinking water in the tank every three to four days. Drain the tank and refill with clean and fresh drinking water. You can use the drained water to scrub the deck of the boat or to clean the windows of the caravan.

Tip 4: Regular inspection and maintenance

To be sure of a clean water tank and water pipes we advise you to check this at least every month. Do you notice deposits or debris? Then carry out the disinfection described in tip 1. Are cracks in the tank or pipes? Replace it to prevent contamination by penetrating dirt or bacteria.
