Which detergent for curtains?

The general rule is once a year, it should normally be sufficient to clean your curtains. However, if they are more yellowed, you have to be more active accordingly.

If the curtains are washed more than twice a year, a normal mild detergent is often sufficient in non-smoking households. Colorful cotton fabrics can also be treated with normal color detergent.

White stores, however, need a liquid detergent if possible. If they are already covered with a gray veil, a curtain detergent from the drugstore will help. It contains bleach and optical brighteners.

If you want to do without the chemical club, slightly reduce the amount of detergent and add two packets of baking soda to the wash cycle. The curtains will come out of the machine in brilliant white.

Always dry curtains hanging:

The dryer is taboo for curtains. It is best to dry them in their traditional place: hanging on the curtain rod. Due to the fact that the fabrics were only spun lightly, they are still sufficiently moist, they practically hang out due to their own weight.

Pull the curtains into shape and smooth them out. This prevents or at least greatly reduces creasing. If ugly creases adorn the freshly washed stores or curtains, you can iron them depending on the quality of the fabric. The curtains may still be slightly damp. Chemical fibers are smoothed at a low temperature, but linen curtains with really hot steam from a steam iron.

You can often save a lot of work if you continuously wash the curtains two to three times a year and hang them up again immediately. A note in the calendar prevents this mostly inconspicuous task from being forgotten.

Buttermilk for a clear view:

According to Commercial laundry, the use of buttermilk is also particularly effective with dirty curtains. To do this, place your curtains in a bathtub filled with water, pour in cold buttermilk and let everything soak in overnight. Then put in the washing machine as usual, but with only a little detergent.

Extra tip: Even a bath in the sun gives your curtains an extra dose of radiance. Hang your gray curtains outside for a day to bring out the white of the fabric again through the action of the UV rays.

How often should I wash my curtains?

The general rule is once a year, it should normally be sufficient to clean your curtains. However, if they are more yellowed, you have to be more active accordingly.

At what temperature do they get into the machine?

Put your curtains in the washing machine at 30 or a maximum of 40 degrees. Select the delicates program and only take about two-thirds of the usual detergent dose. Warning by Commercial laundry: Remove all metallic objects from your curtains before you treat their discoloration and put them in the machine.
