Canary Island’s top sailing school Canary Sail offers the Day Skipper Practical Course, a program specifically structured for students who have already mastered the sailing basics.

[CANARY ISLANDS, 10/14/2015]—Canary Sail, a leading sailing school in the Canary Islands, now offers the Day Skipper Practical Course. The course is designed for sailors who have already mastered basic navigation and sailing skills and wish to build on what they already know. More importantly, this offering is part of the school’s mission to promote the joy and pleasure of sailing.

The Description of the Course

Canary Sail says that the RYA Tidal Day Skipper Practical Course is for students with basic sailing skills. Instructors will teach students more about creating passage plans and controlling the yacht on short passages.

Canary Sail’s instructors will be on hand to provide students with advice and encouragement that will ensure they reach the destination safely. The group also teaches students how to take control of the yacht and delegate tasks to the crew. The daily debrief is spent around the chart table, discussing passages and gaining insights from the experience of other crew members.

Other Details

The program will run over 6 days, with prerequisites taking up 5 days, 100 NM and 4 night hours aboard a sailing yacht. Other than pilotage and seamanship, the course will teach students about boat handling, which includes sailing to a buoy and mooring alongside. At the end of the course, students are expected to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day.

For those who want to pre-study navigation theory, Canary Sail offers the 2-week Day Skipper Special.
