Estrogen and progesterone are the two hormones that are responsible for a women’s monthly cycle. These hormones have direct effect on woman’s mood swings. To understand the concept better let us take an example of a 28 days cycle.

The first week is called the spring because this the time when the estrogen begins to increase after the menstruation. At this time you feel refreshed and renewed after your last cycle with pains and aches.

Second week is called as the summer, where the estrogen is on its monthly peak. During this period you feel energetic and beautiful. You energy outflows and everyone around you feel happy and delightful in your presence.

During third week that is the fall, the estrogen after ovulation takes a steep nose dive. The increasing progesterone luckily holds you from falling to the rock bottom. You feel moody, grouchy or cranky at this time. Doubts and insecurity creeps your mind. You energy unlike summer, decreases and you feel like you need some downtime to catch breath and chill.

The fourth week or the winter, is when both estrogen and progesterone drops down. As a result you undergo depression, crying, angry outbursts, irritability, fatigue, aches, pains, poor concentration and mood swings. You cannot expect these emotions and the only way for this wide roller coaster ride is to hibernate into your little cave.

Every human being faces ups and downs in life. Women face ups and downs every month both physically and emotionally. As women when you try to understand cyclic nature of your life, you can handle things in a better manner and learn to ride the ups and downs in your life. Though there is general mood pattern for women during their monthly life cycle, one must understand each woman is different and unique due to her physical and emotion makeup. Therefore it is important to monitor the mood pattern closely.
