A new law has been implemented since April 6, 2017 which states that employers having 250 employees or more working for them, are supposed to publish certain calculations. These calculations precisely show the pay gap that lies between the male and female employees of the company. Gender pay reporting emphasises mainly on all the men and women and highlights discrimination that is based solely upon gender.
It is mandatory for employers to publish these calculations on their website as well as on the government site. This ensures that the information on the gender pay gap is completely accessible to the public/customers of the company and the employees as well.
The businesses have almost 12 months to publish this information (starting from April 6, 2017), as publishing this information shows the company’s transparency on this topic. It is said that this transparency will be a worthy change for smaller businesses.
There was a survey which concluded that about 82% of companies are not reviewing their gender equality pay policy. This has occurred despite the imposition of The Equality Act 2010. The new regulation that is being imposed since April 2017 is said to tackle all problems regarding the gender pay gap.
It is important that the employers have a clear and consistent record about the pay of their employees. These records need to include salary information across roles and genders which will provide an effective report. Along with this, the employers also need to consider any bonuses that may have been paid out (which includes how much and to whom).
