James R Hughes is a medical professional who has worked in emergency medicine for over 30 years. He began his career in the medical field in 1971 and served as a clinical specialist at the 85th Combat Support Hospital in Ft. Lee, providing medical support to special ops. As a medical professional, he has always been interested in exercise, fitness, and longevity. During the winter, his favorite activity is to go skiing. His desire to ski led him to develop and patent his avalanche control system.

James R Hughes knows the thrill of skiing down the slopes being an avid skier himself. His avalanche control system is specially designed to prevent avalanches from occurring. The system uses multiple chambers in avalanche-prone areas to control the removal of snow buildup which could cause an avalanche. He designed his system using several spaced housings made of a solid material like “shock-crete” with an asymmetric flywheel connected to a motor. The system works by sending signals to warm-up and turn on the device at the desired time which vibrates the housing and helps remove loose snow and other material. The system was developed and filed for patent approval in July 2011.

James R Hughes is also one of the co-founders of the Georgia Emergency Associates (GEA) group founded in 1994 in Savannah. Hughes along with five other experienced physicians started GEA with an aim of providing hospitals and emergency centers the finest immediate and emergency medical care. The group was incorporated in July 1994 and started providing emergency medical care at Candler Hospital in Savannah. In the last 20 years, GEA has grown and now has over 60 physicians, 45 physician extenders, including numerous other support staff.
