[SALT LAKE CITY, MAY 26, 2016] – Walker Pediatric Dentistry is a family-friendly dental office where children can feel comfortable undergoing procedures without fear and anxiety. Here, they can learn the importance of visiting the dentist regularly to keep their oral health in check.

The pediatric dental practice offers an impressive range of services to help children maintain good oral health. This includes Preventive Services, Emergency Care, Orthodontics, and Restorative Work.

Restorative Work

Restorative dental care is not just for adults. Even with proper oral hygiene strategies and preventive care, some children are still susceptible to dental problems such as tooth decay. If left untreated, this can get worse. Their restorative services include pulp therapy (or root canal), extractions, frenectomy, sealants and fillings, as well as dental crowns.

Pulp Therapy

When the decay reaches the nerve, it would require pulp therapy. This procedure involves removing the nerve in the crown and filling it with a material to prevent the rest of the nerve from getting further infected. Afterwards, the crown is replaced with a new one to prevent more damage to the tooth.

Extractions

When tooth decay worsens, progresses deep into the nerve and accumulates pus, it would need to be extracted.

Trauma can also be a factor as to why there is a need to extract baby teeth. If they sustain trauma before they naturally fall out, they need to undergo this procedure before they sustain more damage and further injury.

Frenectomy

This procedure involves the removal of the thick frenum tissue, allowing teeth to grow right next to each other. Failure to detect this will cause teeth to grow apart and stay that way even after wearing braces.

Sealants and Fillings

The purpose of these is to prevent bacteria from breaching cracks and crevices, which can cause decay.

Crown Surgery

Crowns maintain correct spacing, allowing children to talk and eat properly even when their teeth get extracted and fall out. There are two types of crowns available for children: tooth-colored and stainless steel. These are both temporary as they will fall out naturally when permanent teeth begin to erupt.
