Generating enjoyment and influence. That is the slogan of Dr. Isaiah Hankel’s lifestyle blog that was launched earlier this year. The blog focuses on a variety of topics, including why people should stop chasing happiness and learn to enjoy life on a daily basis and how everyone can start “practicing invincibility” to live a longer and more fulfilling life. The main theme of the blog is that too many individuals are obsessed with chasing power and pursuing some mythical realm of happiness. Instead, Dr. Hankel urges his readers to focus on enjoyment, which ties together pleasure with purpose.

Dr. Hankel writes:
“Here is the difference: happiness is a state that extends from your emotions while enjoyment is an action, or series of actions, from which your emotions extend. All emotions are temporary and can be quickly upheaved, which is why happiness never really exists. On the other hand, enjoyment is driven by purpose.”
Similarly, Dr. Hankel suggests that people should stop lusting after power and should start increasing their influence.
“Power is very easily corrupted and is most often maintained by force. In contrast, influence is always fair and just because it relies on freewill…Influence is defined as the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something. This includes the capacity to have an effect on oneself.”
Dr. Hankel received his Ph.D. from the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Hankel has published numerous articles in both industry and academia and currently travels internationally delivering scientific and business-oriented lectures. However, Dr. Hankel’s true passion is working with amateur athletes and budding entrepreneurs. He is in the process of planning a national speaking tour to promote his ideas and his website.
“I wrestled in high school and for a [NCAA Division 1] wrestling team in college and the sport is still very important with me. I really enjoy working with athletes and business professionals and I hope to continue to inspire both with this blog.”
