Irene Kepler has been tirelessly working to help the HIV/AIDS infected women in Tanzania through Arusha, her non-profit organization.

 
Irene Kepler has been tirelessly working to help the HIV/AIDS infected women in Tanzania for the past ten years. Kepler is a member, legislative chair, and delegate in the Michigan Association of School Social Workers (MASSW), and a liaison to the Metro East Chamber of Commerce. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work, Sociology, and Women’s Studies from Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant; and a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Irene Kepler is a professor and social worker with several years’ experience in advocating the rights of women. In 2005 she set up Arusha, her non-profit organization in Tanzania to help HIV/AIDS infected women overcome the stigma of the disease. Her organization provides fresh fruit, vegetables, and soap to the women to sell at discounted prices. Her efforts with the HIV/AIDS infected women is focused on encouraging social interaction and overcoming the cultural stigma the women face in their communities. She also developed a program for the emotional, sexual, and nutritional health of 50 orphans living at Living Water Children’s Center. For the past ten years, she has been working with her non-profit organization and is committed to helping women and orphans in Tanzania.

Irene Kepler is currently studying for her Doctorate of Social Work at Capella University. Currently, she is serving as an Adjunct Professor of sociology, cultural diversity, urban sociology, psychology and abnormal psychology, and child and human development at Southern Technical College. Kepler also served as the MSW Intern Supervisor at Roseville Community Schools/Rep. Levin’s Congressional District Office for two years from 2004 to 2006. She is a certified Trauma and Loss Intervention Specialist, Crisis Intervention Specialist, Certified School Social Worker, and Licensed Clinical and Macro Master Social Worker.

Irene Kepler was awarded the Macomb County Peace Maker Award, Commitment to Community Award, and the Outstanding Leadership Award for her work with the disadvantaged. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Leadership Council, Teach Tolerance, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary.
