Greek mythology is so expansive—not to mention enthralling—that you simply cannot distinguish the myriad list of gods and goddesses of Greek mythology. So, here’s a little list to help you freshen up your memory.

- Zeus
He is the most powerful, a ruler of Mount Olympus and god of the sky, lightning, thunder, law, order and justice. His love for beautiful women often got him in trouble with his wife.

- Poseidon
He was brother to Zeus and Hades. God of the sea, and capable of causing earthquakes and sinking fleets of ships.

- Hera
Goddess of marriage and family, she was Zeus’ wife. Being goddess of marriage, she caused quite a bit of trouble for Zeus’ lovers and their children.

- Athena
Goddess of war, she was the one behind Greek’s victory in the Trojan War. And she also had a temper, naturally, since she was the goddess of war.

- Apollo
God of archery, and later God of the sun too. His physique is something mere mortals wish to achieve even today.

- Artemis
Goddess of the moon and maidens, Artemis usually just kept to herself and is sometimes found with her handmaidens.

- Aphrodite
Goddess of beauty, she could change her appearance to become whatever you found most beautiful. And she is more beautiful than Helen of Troy.

- Hades
God of the underworld, Hades is best known for the romantic way he won his wife Persephone.

- Ares
The God of war, he is the male counterpart to Athena. And he is the son of Zeus and Hera, basically prince of Mount Olympus.

- Hephaestus
His was born ugly, and so his parents chucked him down Mount Olympus. It didn’t make him pretty, rather turned him into a cripple. The Olympians made him marry Aphrodite, the Goddess of beauty.

- Dionysus
God of wine, he was the creator of many parties in Ancient Greece. And he was Zeus’ son.

- Iris
Goddess of rainbow and messenger of Gods, she was basically just a handmaiden to Hera.

- Hestia
Goddess of hearth, home and chastity, she is also Zeus’ sister. Not often identifiable in Greek art, she appeared as a modestly veiled woman.

- Eros
God of love and affection, his Roman counterpart is the well-known Cupid. He is the son of Aphrodite.

- Achlys
The goddess of poisons, and the personification of misery and sadness. Said to have existed before Chaos itself.

- Demeter
Goddess of grain, agriculture, harvest, growth, and nourishment. Demeter, whose Roman counterpart is Ceres, is a daughter of Cronus and Rhea, and was swallowed and then regurgitated by her father. She is a sister of Zeus, by whom she bore Persephone, wife of Hephaestus.
