Getting the Right Travel Insurance at the Right Price

Getting cover for a trip you're about to undertake can often be a confusing issue, with many companies offering a wide range of different types of insurance. It can be incredibly difficult to know what to look for and very tempting to go with the cheapest as many people see insurance as an additional cost they could really do without. The first thing that anyone should consider has to be whether they want to be covered for a single trip or multiple trips. This obviously depends on the number of times you plan to go abroad during the same year. Frequent travellers may find the multiple trip deals offer better value, but only if acquired from the correct company that offers reasonable compensation for the possible situations you could end up in.

When assessing the plus and negative points of getting cover for a trip abroad, people should certainly read the small print in the details of the offer. Sometimes travellers and holiday makers are guilty of being drawn in by advertising schemes set up by airlines. They end up paying over the odds for travel insurance that really doesn't offer a great deal once it's broken down. For example, many budget airlines in Asia offer 'insure' packages that declare a traveller is able to claim on numerous levels for things that go wrong in their trip. However, mainly due to the nature of budget airlines wanting to make money on non-returnable fees, very little or in some cases nothing at all is offered to be refunded if you cancel your trip. These types of companies focus on offering cover for the small things or highly unlikely events to boast their marketing schemes. For example, they'll offer cover for loss of luggage or quote figures that are available to be funded in the case of as member of the travelling party dying. However, because it's all so well marketed people forget the fact that the companies aren't actually offering that much, or if any substantial fee is offered to compensate you it is often for something that very rarely happens. Of course, an insurance company is far more likely to be willing to pay out for a new $30 dollar suitcase than they are to refund the cost of an entire round trip airfare. That's why many companies that offer cover are very cautious when it comes to offering anything in terms of refunds of flights. If anything is offered, as harsh as it sounds, a traveller is either deceased or is in a very serious condition before financial aid is offered. It means that many travellers who have less serious illness issues but are unable to fly are left in limbo without the cash they outlaid for the trip. Unfortunately in this situation there's always only one winner, as underneath all that persuasive advert campaign is the small print and the dreaded table of cases the company will pay out on. Sadly for most cash strapped passengers the system is set up so most circumstances mean they finish penniless.

However, when looking for cheap travel insurance Singapore, we're lucky that our nation does actually have a number of reputable companies who do give value for money rather than just professing to be the cheapest. Staying away from companies that offer seemingly unbelievable deals is probably a good move. Also, it's a good idea to stay away from insurance companies that are linked to the budget airline you've booked with. A lot of airlines just see insurance as an opportunity to bump up the fee you're paying to them, bringing it back in line with other airlines so it ends up not being 'budget' at all. In addition to this the majority of the time the cover offered by them is often minimal. An independent company that offers insurance separately is usually a better move, but always make sure you check out what the insurance actually covers rather than just assuming that you know already what you'll be entitled to. Companies such as Allianz Assistance have a good reputation for offering a range of cover that varies on the travellers needs. Using a company such as this has to be more reliable option than going with the cover offered by the airline you fly with. The important thing to remember is that offering cover/insurance to passengers is a highly competitive business for these companies, so shopping around never harms before you decide on the firm that seem right for you and your trip.
