Hermes Propels Unique Amazon Echo Tracking Solution

Hermes, the company renown for itsconsumer delivery service;has become the first parcel company in the UK to fully blend its end-to-end tracking solution with Amazon’s line of Echo smart-homedevices.

 
Hermes, the company renown for itsconsumer delivery service;has become the first parcel company in the UK to fully blend its end-to-end tracking solution with Amazon’s line of Echo smart-homedevices. Consumers can use voice commands through Alexa-enabled devices, such as an Amazon Echo or Echo Dot, to hear updates regarding their parcel.This innovative feature is a part of Hermes’ ongoing efforts to provide retailers with new services and solutions that benefit end-customers, andenhance the overall shopping experience for the UK’s growing number of online patrons.
Owners of devices that are powered by the Amazon’sdigital assistant Alexa can permit the specific feature on the AlexaSkills app to track their parcels. Customers will then receive updates on deliveries that are shipped via Hermes (which includes many of the UK’s best-known retailers and brands), as well as parcels that are sent via my Hermes. This new feature also allows online shoppers to track any items using the Parcel Delivery Europe service, and any returns they sent via Hermes.
This feature was engineeredby theHermes Innovation Lab in the centre of Leeds, which is specifically tasked with developing forward-thinking products that will improve the delivery experience.David Turner, Head of Digital Strategy & Technology Innovation, said: “An important part of our remit is to explore new and exciting technologies that will allow us to enrich the delivery experience. Digital assistants such as Siri, Cortana and Alexa have been developed to drive increased convenience, and our research tells us that there will be a future shift away from screen interactions in favour of conversational interface technology. We are thrilled with our initial release, but we are already experimenting with new interactions and functionality that we will be releasing throughout this year.”
In addition to this scouting tracking features, the Innovation Lab continues to work on developing additional features as part of the integration. Further developments will allow customers to set delivery preferences and preferred neighbor dropoff locations, for example.
