Obstetricians like Dr Rahul Sen understand the value of offering midwife services as part of their obstetric care.

Midwives play a crucial role in antenatal education and support during labour. They will happily help mothers to give birth if everything is going well. If there are complications, or women need an assisted delivery or a caesarean section then it is reassuring and comforting to have a specialist who is known to them to help with their care.

Dr Rahul Sen is an obstetrician in Sydney who has been practising obstetrics and gynaecology for over 17 years. He is currently based at Prince of Wales Private Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Women which are located in Randwick, Sydney. Whether you are expecting your first child or are looking for specialist gynaecological services, Dr Sen dedicates his practice to offering women the highest level of care and expertise.

Dr Sen has this to say about the midwife services at The Prince of Wales Private Hospital and The Royal Hospital for Women, the two hospitals in Randwick Sydney that he attends:

You may be more likely to be given a single room from your first night at Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick Sydney, depending on your level of cover. This may be important for you, as it means your partner can stay with you, which in turn may be helpful, as there are no night nursery facilities. The hospital is often more flexible if you need en extended stay or readmission, and there is facility for early discharge on the Midwifery Support Programme (MSP), where midwives will come to visit you at home if you leave hospital early.

The Prince of Wales Private Hospital is purely a private hospital, and it is generally better geared for private patients. The main advantage of POWPH is that there is a night nursery, where the staff can look after your newborn baby for a few hours overnight, and allow you some much needed sleep.

Prince of Wales Private offer the very popular Little Luxuries programme – the hospital has created a post-natal “ward” on the 6th floor at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Coogee for post-natal women. There is a midwife present 24 hours per day, and, if eligible, you can spend half your post-natal stay in the hotel. The cost is covered by your fund, unless you are with NIB.
