A game-changer in democratizing education, STEAM Craft Edu with local NGO partners launches the Planeteers game and STEAM education platform in select Manila schools to help underprivileged children level up amid a competitive digital economy.

Advocating equal opportunity for all, STEAM Craft Edu’s Planeteers game teaches children important 21st century skills like coding for kids, robotics, design thinking, and innovation through a scalable game-based learning platform mapped to a comprehensive STEAM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

As careers and opportunities become increasingly dominated by new technologies, systems, and tools, STEAM education is becoming a critical pillar in revitalizing our education system to align with new career and industry
landscapes - inclusive of digital literacy skills like computer programming for kids.

"The technology revolution is creating a global workforce crisis, accelerated by poor education outcomes. This is partly because of jobs lost because of automation, but additionally a result of a graduate gap to fill new job opportunities.” said Phil Mason, Steam Craft Edu’s Chief Maker. " Planeteers teaches critical 21st Century job skills like coding, robotics and innovation using what children love best – games! Our aim is to make an impact on global STEAM education, with equal focus on financial return and social benefits. And we are starting in the Philippines."

A powerful educational sandbox developed in collaboration with educational experts and teachers, Planeteers is an intergalactic adventure set in a fictional universe with habitats, flora and fauna that resembles Earth. Students play as a stranded space explorer tasked to collect vital elements and scientific discoveries—key to regenerating their own planet. Together with their robot companion, Socket, they must build a sustainable habitat while also exploring and collecting materials and data for their trip home.

“Our initial rollout is in Manila, with our NGO partners sponsoring some 10,000 students across ten to twelve schools.” Said Cindy Perez, Social Impact Relationship Manager. ”Our first round of grant schools have completed teacher training and plan to integrate the game and platform for grades 3 to 6 in August as a primary resource for their STEAM curriculum. It’s very exciting to be able to help teachers enable the future of learning into their classrooms for the benefits of underprivileged children.”

STEAM Craft Edu won the Best Free ICT/App Product for Planeteers at the prestigious 2017 GESS Education Awards in Dubai, which highlights the best and the brightest in educational sector. The game will be available for schools internationally in September, with a home version for parents rolling out in October.
