When women in the Caribbean are struggling with reproductive issues or need treatment and care during their pregnancies, they go to see Geoffrey Lafond. Lafond is the head of the obstetrics and gynecology department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown Barbados – the island’s largest hospital. Lafond has worked at the hospital for many years, from 1992 when he started as a house officer. He was promoted through the ranks up to a registrar, and in 2005 was made a gynecological consultant. In 2012, he was made the department head due to his extensive experience and knowledge in the field.

Lafond is originally from Roseau, Dominica. He attended primary and secondaryGeoffrey Lafond stayed in Barbados. He became certified by the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in London, a prestigious program that trains and certifies OB/GYNs around the world. He is also the director of Caribbean Gynecological Endoscopic Surgery, as well as the director of Nature Island Medical Services in his home country of Dominica, which he travels to frequently. He is also the former director of Barbados Family Planning Services and former general secretary of the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners. In his free time, Lafond enjoys playing cricket, and watching all types of sports as well. He even played cricket on a national level as a teenager, representing Dominica on a youth team. Geoffrey Lafond is interested in eventually pursuing sports management as a side venture.
