As an architect, Gene Daniels was fascinated by the idea of linking the world of social needs and the world of design. After an intensive 14 years of dedication, he designed and created the eHome - a low-cost and functional shelter. The eHome is a simple, affordable and self-efficient commutable structure that was originally designed for the urban homeless and victims of natural disasters.

The eHome was inspired by the Swedish furniture design (an easy to assemble principle) and is designed and made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). eHome is determined to achieve the following set of goals: efficiency, lightness, pack ability, low-tech constructability, adaptability, re-usability and durability. In addition, the eHome is designed to provide thermal insulation, and cellulose blow-in insulation for sound proofing between shelters dwelling when attached to one another. With the simple yet effective design, the eHomes are not only safe and secure but are also environmental friendly.

For achieving these goals, Gene Daniels has been working closely with the researchers at the KASALA Institute in Dundalk, Ireland.

About Gene Daniels
Gene Daniels is a multitalented and multidisciplinary designer. He has completed his bachelor's degree in Interior Design and Architecture from Maryland Institute College of Art in 1989. He pursued his Master's degree in Architecture form Morgan State University in 1994. At present, he is completing his PhD in Baltimore, Maryland. Complementing his research, Gene has worked with various materials too, including wood, steel, textiles, digital media and site-specific environments.
