Just before the commencement of the exam in July 2015 the Board of Trustees of the State Bar of California gave their nod to new California Bar Exam that will come into effect from 2017 onwards. The changes are certainly significant in magnitude as the New California Bar Exam has been reduced to 2 days instead of 3 days. This is a great respite for the candidates as they could now heave a sigh of relief as the gruelling exam would get over within 2 days now.

It is significant to note that a number of examinees appear in this test in order to quality to become an attorney in California. They start preparing for this exam a long time before the exam is due. This is because of the tough pattern of the examination system which checks the candidates from all the aspects. They need to cover everything in detail in order to qualify this exam. In this regards the announcement for the New California Bar Exam that is going to be effective from 2017 is a great announcement that is done well in time so as to enable the candidates to make their strategies for the exam.

The new California Bar Exam will have 3 Essay Questions of 3 hours duration in the morning session of day 1. Then, the afternoon session of day 1 will be of 3.5 hours and will have 2 essay questions and 1 Performance test of 90 minutes duration. Then, day 2 morning session will be of 3 hours and will have 100 Multiple Choice Questions. The Afternoon session will be of 3 hours duration as well and will consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions.

So, it is pertinent to note that the new California Bar Exam lays less emphasis on the Performance Test as there is only one 90 minutes test against the 2 180 minutes Performance tests.
