Invisible aligners: What to expect during the treatment?

Invisible aligners have made it easier for a lot of people to get treatment for their misaligned teeth without embarrassment, judgement, or unnecessary pain.

Dubai, UAE- It is safe to say that we live in a society where perfect teeth and a beautiful smile are deeply coveted. People with misaligned teeth are not only insecure about their looks but are also unaware of the potential health issues they may face. To help these people get perfectly aligned teeth, and thereby improve their oral health, dental clinics across the nation offer several orthodontic treatments. Of these, the most popular one nowadays is the invisible aligners.

Although traditional braces have been the most reliable treatment for misaligned teeth for decades, clear aligners have become the favored method over these past few years. Invisible aligners, as the name suggests, are virtually invisible to human eyes and are more comfortable than metallic braces by far.

“Most of our orthodontic patients ask us during our initial consultation itself whether they can opt for invisible aligners instead of braces,” says the expert spokesperson for Emirates Dental Clinic, one of Dubai’s leading centers for clear aligners. “Invisible aligners have indeed made it easier for a lot of people to get treatment for their misaligned teeth without embarrassment, judgement, or unnecessary pain.”

While clear aligners can correct most cases of mild to moderate dental malocclusion, your dentist will do a comprehensive checkup of your oral cavity before confirming whether you are a good candidate for the treatment. Once you sign up for clear aligners, 3D images of your teeth and oral cavity are taken to design custom-fitted aligner trays that will bring your teeth into a desirable position throughout treatment. Each set of aligner trays is replaced every two to three weeks during the treatment period to apply gentle yet consistent pressure on the teeth in the direction they must move. Even though you may feel some pressure and discomfort at the start, once you get used to the feeling of having the aligners over your teeth, the treatment becomes painless.

“Like with any other orthodontic treatment, there will be a few dos and don'ts that must be followed to get optimal results,” the expert continues. “These recommendations are simple, doable actions that will ensure that you remain on the treatment track, maintain oral hygiene and keep the aligners clear and transparent during the period to maintain its invisibility.”

The aligner trays must be worn for a minimum of 20 to 22 hours and can be taken off during meals. They must be carefully cleaned and kept in their case when not in use to avoid damage and discoloration. So when you get started on the clear aligner treatment, make sure that you learn and follow all the recommendations from your dentist to ensure the best results in the shortest time possible.
