Westminster, London -- 30/11/2017 9-year old Ken came home crying one day. He was with his friends in the neighbourhood playground and broke his front tooth while trying out roller-blading. Almost 3/4th of the tooth had been knocked off from the impact of trauma and the youngster was bleeding heavily. It’s obvious his mom got annoyed on seeing him so horribly wounded.
However, the lady didn’t allow her anxiety to get the better of her. She recollected herself very fast and rushed him to the local emergency dental care. Luckily, the clinic was nearby and they made it pretty fast, without losing the crucial time on the way. He was immediately attended to and both the bleeding and the pain were resolved with medication. The dentist applied temporary caps, considering the roots of the injured tooth didn’t suffer from the damage.
Complexities
Unfortunately, these temporary caps just fell off after 3 weeks or so, exposing the nerves lying beneath. The unsuccessful process continued for a few times at a stretch and everytime, the temporary caps came off within a few weeks. Finally, the affected area got infected and Ken’s gums swelled up, causing pain. The oral healthcare provider even cautioned, he may lose that tooth for ever and it has to be replaced by a denture or a bridge.
The emergency dentist in the London clinic suggested to show Ken to a root canal treatment (RCT) expert. Then, luckily, the kid underwent a ground-breaking treatment that improves one’s body’s own healing system to cure the oral problem. One out of every five kid under the age of 16, experience this kind of tooth loss problem, resulting due to sports or being hyperactive.
Difficulties in treatment
Curing these young patients was difficult along the conventional dentistry treatments. Even performing the conventional RCT on these tender, yet-to-mature gums turned out to be difficult. The latest treatment procedure involves removing bacteria from a patient’s root canal system. This prevents further decay of the gums and the surrounding teeth at the affected site. The oral health expert will drill into the site and remove the already infected pulp. Then, the spot will be sealed up with a sealant. Finally, the lost tooth is replaced with a crown.
More effective treatment
However, according to the latest trend, dentists are applying regenerative endodontics, a brand new treatment approach. This procedure allows both the affected tooth and its network of roots to grow normally, as if the original pulp inside the canal is still intact. To achieve this, a tiny incisson is made above the tooth and then, it is left to heal itself.
The most important thing in this entire procedure is to place the knocked out tooth back in its socket as soon as possible. Otherwise, the natural tooth may be lost for ever. Therefore, it is important to remember to find the knocked out tooth, rinse it well in cold water or cold mild and then, place it back in the socket. Never ever rinse it with hot water or any hot liquid. It will kill the nerve system inside the natural molar making it impossible to replace back.
