The villages of Vurberk and Krvecina, located east of Slovenia , were evacuated yesterday to defuse a 250-kilogram World War II bomb , found by a citizen last week.
The device had been found in a nearby forest by an inhabitant of Vurberk who, with a metal detector , was looking for a supposed treasure hidden by a local philonazi group during the Second World War, reports the local newspaper "Delo".
With the help of his children, he moved the bomb to the patio of his house, placing his family and nearby neighbors in great danger.
The man, who will probably be prosecuted, best beginner metal detector for gold made it difficult to deactivate the bomb because he had moved it. The process is one of the most risky interventions ever carried out by the special Slovenian police, local experts say.
In total, 450 residents of both villages had to leave their homes, the Slovenian news agency STA reported. It is a bomb of the American aviation , which did not explode after a bombing of the area, at the end of the Second World War.
The bomb is considered to be especially dangerous because it has a chemical ignition mechanism that should react to minor shocks, so the press considers a "miracle" that has not exploded during its transfer.
Experts estimate that the deactivation will last several hours , and until all the roads are closed, all the local roads, including the Maribor-Ptuj regional highway, as well as the airspace over the area will be closed.
