History: 1963 the 221 Fire Ball appeared in the Experimental Pistol Number 100 (XP 100). Wayne Leek development the XP-100, a 10-3/4 inch single shot handgun ,originally chambered for the 222 Remington. Wayne determined a cartridge needed to burn less powder which led to the 221 Fireball, which has a overall length of 1.40 inches, slightly shorter than the parent case of 1.70 inches
