DJ Jonathan Cowan is happy to call Florida home but he has exercised his talents away from home too. As a university student, DJ Jonathan Cowan attended Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida and spent some time at the American College of Dublin, Ireland. As a student, DJ Jonathan Cowan loved music and hoped to broaden his musical horizons, but was clearly in Ireland to study hospitality administration and international business marketing.

DJ Jonathan Cowan began working as a resident DJ in 1994 at Groovejet in Miami. During the same timeframe, he also worked as the resident DJ of The Kitchen, which is owned by Bono from U2, in Dublin, Ireland, as well as at TribeHouse in Dusseldorf, Germany. By 2002, he had left his position at Groovejet and became the resident DJ of the prestigious club Pacha Ibiza. He worked as the resident DJ from 2002 to 2013.

“Working as a DJ, you learn a lot about operating a club and a business. It all takes superb management and organizational skills,” says DJ Jonathan Cowan. These were skills he would be recognized for, starting in 1999. With DJ Mag, DJ Jonathan Cowan became the executive producer of the Winter Music Conference weeklong series of events at Shelborne. He routinely produced the music event until 2012.

Working as executive producer, DJ Jonathan Cowan knew his reputation was on the line. “When your name is involved, you want your party or event to make it big. By 2007, the Winter Music Conference was featured in New Times,” says DJ Jonathan Cowan. In 2013, DJ Jonathan Cowan continued his work as an executive producer of musical events when he partnered with Moog Music and Ibiza United to produce the Winter Music Conference week of events, day and night at Delano.

“There is a lot of work that goes behind each event. As an executive producer, you have to oversee and manage it all. It is nerve-wracking but also rewarding,” says DJ Jonathan Cowan. His talent for producing these events led the city of Miami Beach to use DJ Jonathan Cowan as a resource to hold city and community events. “I work closely with Miami Beach City Commission for Cultural Development and Events,” says DJ Jonathan Cowan. He has helped the city organize a variety of events including music, art, fashion, food, and wine festivals and handles everything from sound and security to event talent and staging.
