Meal Planning Basics For Diabetics

Knowing your blood sugar level is extremely important when you're a diabetic. It's not a overstatement to say that it can mean the differences between life and death.

Glucose is the primary source of energy that your body receives from food. When you eat carbohydrates your body breaks them down into simple sugars (glucose) and uses them to fuel you throughout the day. Normally your body regulates its sugar levels without any assistance, but it can sometimes lose this ability over the course time. Without this internal balance, your sugar levels can shift to extremes. In order for you to go back to having some normal blood glucose levels, you'll need prescription insulin injections. Without this assistance, low blood sugar levels can be potentially fatal. Normal blood glucose levels typically ranges between 70 to 150mg, over the course of the day.

Blood sugar levels also tend to be at their lowest levels in the early morning, and that really isn't surprising. Generally the level of sugar in your blood changes based on the foods you consume and your activity level. Since you've (ideally) been inactive for 6 plus hours without any calorie consummation, this would be when it's at it's lowest. The range of normal blood glucose levels can also be dependent on what kind of test you use to measure it. If you use the most common testing method known as the random blood glucose test, a measurement in the middle to low 100's is seen as normal. While if you use the less common method of blood glucose testing called the fasting blood glucose test, which involves you fasting for 8 hours prior to the test, normal blood glucose levels would be anything less then 110 mg. By eating the proper foods and closely watching your sugar intake, you can effectively control your glucose level. It's important to keep a close eye on your blood sugar levels, your life just might just depend on it.

A disorder affecting the way our bodies use digested food for growth and energy is Diabetes. In the blood most of the food we eat is broken down into glucose sugar. Diabetes is also an important development issue because it has a large economic impact. In higher-income countries, more than half of those with diabetes are older than 65 years. Diabetes is a serious disease, which can lead to heart problems, strokes, loss of limbs due to poor circulation, and death. Research continues to indicate that regular exercise and a healthy diet are two factors, which can help people, avoid diabetes, as well as allow diabetics to have functional lives.
