Madrid, Spain, March 21, 2013 - Ten years on, Argentina is relaunching the International Music Festival dedicated to Manuel de Falla.

Starting in late November, four Argentinean cities will host the ninth Manuel de Falla International Music Festival, an event dedicated to this composer from Cádiz, Spain, who had strong links to Granada and died in Alta Gracia (Córdoba, Argentina). The aim of the event is to raise awareness about him in Argentina through a programme of music.

The national arts director of Argentina’s Secretariat of Culture, José Luis Castiñeira de Dios, said the aim of this new festival is to relaunch the one that existed over a decade ago in Alta Gracia, giving it international relevance. This town, where the Spanish composer died in exile, will host the majority of the activities, although events will also be organised in the Argentinean towns of Córdoba, Villa Carlos Paz, and the capital, Buenos Aires.

The definitive programme has still not been finalised, but the Manuel de Falla de Granada Archive Foundation will certainly play an active role in it, as well as local Andalusian artists involved with flamenco, orchestra conductors, musical performers and official bodies from the Argentinean province of Córdoba. Granada’s City Councillor for Culture, Juan García Montero, said that culture is a “fundamental factor” in collaboration and joint development between countries, and that the cities of Granada and Cádiz will once again be collaborating on this festival.

Aside from parallel academic activities such as the travelling exhibition “Manuel de Falla. Wanderings of a musician”, the programme, which will run for 10 days, will also feature renowned pieces such as “Atlántida”, “Amor brujo”, “Sombrero de tres picos” and “El retablo de Maese Pedro”.
