Some of the common inherited disorders are Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), Epidermolysis bullosa (EB), Marfan Syndrome, and Osteogenesis imperfect. EDS is an amalgamation of more than 10 disorders, characterized by stretchy skin, over-flexible joints, and abnormal growth of scar tissue. Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is another rare autoimmune disease, consisting of characteristic features of several diseases such as lupus, polymyositis or dermatomyositis, scleroderma, and rheumatoid arthritis. According to the National Center for Advancing Translational Medicines, currently there is no cure available for this condition but certain medications such as corticosteroids, immunosuppresive drugs, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) help in the management of symptoms. It is also stated that MCTD is more frequent in females with a male to female ratio of 1:3, and the typical age of onset of MCTD is between 15-25 years.
