Posted May 17, 2016 by DawayneDButler

Dawayne D. Butler is an experienced crab fisher, working in the lucrative waters off the coast of Alaska.

Dawayne D. Butler has worked for many years as an Alaskan crab fisher, bringing in some of the world’s most highly acclaimed seafood. Crab fishing is a difficult job, requiring both physical strength and mental perseverance. Many people would find the demands of this career too overwhelming: crab fishers often spend days on end at sea, facing biting cold and wind, while stuck in close quarters with several other fishermen. The water can be dangerous, especially during the off-season, and the physical labor can be intense, requiring fishers to haul in huge amount of crab each day. However, Butler is perfectly suited to the job because of his immense amount of perseverance and willpower. He is also extremely loyal, making him one of the most loved and respected members of his crew. After years on the boat, he has learned many tips and tricks of the trade, which he now passes on to newer and younger crew members.

Prior to becoming a crab fisherman, Butler served in the United States Army Reserves. As a member of the Reserves, Butler received traditional army combat training, which he found to be a great way to build character and increase his strength. Army reserves members have civilian jobs after they complete their initial training, but participate in monthly training sessions near their place of residence, and are summoned once a year to complete a longer training exercise lasting two weeks. Serving in the Army Reserves provides the many benefits of serving in the Army, including education and healthcare benefits. Reserves members also get the fulfillment of serving their country, without the larger risk and time commitment of serving in a full-time unit. Dawayne D. Butler is proud of his work with the Army Reserves over the years.

Something that has consistently motivated Butler to keep working is his Christian faith. He strongly believes in God and Jesus Christ, and remains very spiritual, even when he is living on the boat.
