Alison Lowe is a bright, well-rounded young person with many interests.
Currently, she is studying for her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. With a strong sense of helping others, this is the field where she feels she can best serve her community.

Her desire to help others began at an early age, following the example of her parents. Her father is much involved in Vancouver’s Chinese community particularly with Senior Citizens. Her mother is a family physician who goes far beyond the norm in providing excellent health care to her patients.
As Alison grew up, seized every opportunity afforded her to serve. When still in school, she tutored immigrant children, taught Sunday School and was a summer camp counselor. Working with children, she organised many activities so that they could learn important aspects of life such as teamwork, quick thinking and problem solving.

As she grew older, she had the very special experience of being a medical and dental assistant in poverty-stricken rural areas of Vietnam and Mexico. Seeing others survive with so much less than she had deepened her compassion to humanity. Back in Vancouver, she started fundraising and being involved with activities that would help those less fortunate.
For Asian Heritage month, Alison was awarded the responsibility of coordinatin the youth of Vancouver for a special event honouring Chinese Canadian war veterans. She received a special commendation from a Canadian government official for her outstanding work.

One of Alison’s attributes is to be easily adaptable. On one hand, she co-founded and facilitated the Sharing Hands Community Kitchen, a unique approach to assisting women with chronic health and psychological problems through the Vancouver Food Bank and Canadian Mental Health Association. On another hand, she organized and spoke at a weight loss seminar at a family physician clinic sponsored by Vancouver Coastal Health,
This is not to say that Alison is “all work and no play.” Alison loves music and has performed onstage in musicals and sung with choirs. She plays piano and guitar and is an enthusiastic and dynamic drummer. She plays in special events, concerts and church services.

Well-rounded and personable, Alison Lowe is a treat to be around.
