Alison Lowe – An Inquisitive Mind

Posted March 25, 2014 by dannielwilliam

Alison Lowe was born in Taiwan but moved to Canada before she was one years old. Her upbringing, like for most people, has had a substantial influence in her life.

Alison Lowe has always been curious. From the time she was young, the questions of. “What? Where? When? Why? How?” has been part of her approach whenever she looks at something new or different.

For someone who is involved in research, this is a particularly valuable attribute. Her desire to seek out answers is not only academic but innate. Communication skills, both oral and written are most important. Collecting data, conducting data analysis, management of databases were aided by Alison’s inquiring attitude. Her thirst for knowing manifested itself in excellent work of creating simuli, managing research projects, programming experiments and testing infant, child and adult subjects.

When Alison Lowe was working as a Medical Office Assistant, this was most helpful to the physicians. To Alison, taking patient histories was not just a job. She was genuinely interested in who the person was and why the person behaved or reacted in the way. Her comprehensive notes to the physician went far beyond the call of what was expected in this position. While the physicians, of course, would make their own assessments, Alison’s preliminary work was useful.

An inquisitive mind is also useful for decision-making. In a complex world where every situation can impact another, it is helpful to explore the various root causes and effects not only professionally but personally.

This is useful because Alison is often asked to counsel, particularly young people. Many youth are overwhelmed by what the world has to offer so Alison Lowe will help a young person systematically analyze a situation, breaking it into more manageable parts. After a thorough examination of the components, the situation as a whole will be considered. This is most helpful when Alison is asked to counsel young people whose relationships with their parents or peers have conflict. There are so many factors to consider – personality, economic status, gender issues, dealing with stress and so many more.

Often this process can take many hours. Someone who just “wants to get the job over with” will not have the patience to consider all the factors required to make an informed decision or. Having an inquisitive mind helps Alison to enjoy the process and consequently help the person she is counseling in the best way she can. It is up to the individual as to which path that he or she will ultimately take, but the person will know that Alison has done her best to help guide the process.
