Horror genre astounds its readers by creating a sense of panic, fear and dreadfulness. The books in this genre basically use a plot and describes the events which scares the reader through the portrayal of their worst nightmares and fears.

The books in this genre basically use a plot and describes the events which scares the reader through the portrayal of their worst nightmares and fears. The main character in this genre is an evil who tries to disturb the main character in the scariest way. As this genre has its own style, it has various sub genres namely – fantasy, science-fiction and thriller.

- History of Horror Genre

The birth of horror genre was in Western Literature where emergence of fear and curiosity began in the 18th century. The first novel developed in the 18th century was a Gothic novel. The horror genre was invented by Horace Walpole whose Castle of Otr banto can be said as a legitimate form of horror story. The novel, Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly was a development which illustrated creation of a monster. In the romantic era, two authors who created horror stories which were beyond mere entertainment by using their skills of merging everyday reality with horror madness were a German and an American author with names E.T.A. Hoffmann and Edgar Allan Poe.

- Comedy Horror

Comedy horror is a sub-genre of horror which uses comic events along with the dark side of fear. This genre describes its plot in such a way that the reader finds it funny as well as scary. - Teen Horror

In teen horror, author uses the characters with teenage group. A typical form of this genre is large cast with clear lead hero and heroine. This genre often has plots like dating, proms encountered with thrilling twists. - Monster Horror

A monster horror is a genre which uses a monster character struggling with human beings. The plot of this genre is basically “something going wrong” which leads to the monster taking revenge from the human being. This genre goes along science fiction and romantic genre too. Some examples in this genre are The Nightmare Room by Chris Sorensen, Atlantis by Mark Tufo, Whistlers by Mark Tufo and many more in the list.
