Aircraft accidents in Alaska often result in severe injuries or death. Victims face extensive medical treatment, expensive medical bills, and a long recovery process. Victims also face a long and complex legal process when seeking to recover compensation for their injuries. Aviation law consists of a complicated group of laws, treaties, and court decisions. Consequently, those injured in Alaska aircraft accidents [http://www.crowsonlaw.com/alaska-aviation-casualties/], should consult an experienced aircraft accident lawyer to protect their rights and to collect the maximum amount allowed under the law.

One of the processes in any personal injury claim is the notifying those responsible for the accident. This must be done even if you do not know who was at fault. You must simply think about who may be at fault and who may be responsible for the accident. There is no need to furnish the person or company that you think is responsible with a lot of details initially. All you need to do initially is to notify them about the accident, to inform them that you were injured as a result of the accident, and that you intend to file a personal injury claim. To help explain how the notification process works, a spokesman and attorney from the Crowson Law Group gave comments.

In response to how an individual can start, the spokesman stated “Well, before getting into too many things, you first need to determine who might be responsible and this often depends on the type of accident that you were involved in. For example, it is important to be aware, in the case of an aircraft accident, whether the aircraft is owned by the pilot personally or is part of fleet owned by a company; if the aircraft is owned by a company then all correspondence will be directed to the company that owns the aircraft. The same is true if the company is owned by the pilot; all correspondence will be directed to the pilot.”

The attorney also commented on the issue of notification letters. He stated that once the individual has determined those who might be responsible for the accident, there will be need to write letters telling each person responsible that the accident happened and that they were injured. The injured person must write a letter of notification even if others involved in the accident do not. It is also important that the injured party does not delay in giving notice. With respect to giving notice, the spokesman said that while there is no specific number of days within which one should give notice following the accident, it is important that notice be provided without delay. The spokesman further stated that when filing a personal injury claim, this is governed by what is called a statute of limitation; “a statute of limitation sets a timeframe or deadline on how much time a person has to file a lawsuit in civil court after one has suffered some type of harm or injury. In Alaska, the statute of limitation is two years from the event or the discovery of the injury or harm.”
