Chennai Super Kings is one of the most consistent IPL team ever till the date. The team have lifted the IPL title thrice (in 2010, 2011 and 2018), and have the best win percentage among all teams in the IPL (61.56).

The journey started in the year 2008 when the inaugural IPL season was conducted and the franchise was sold to the India Cements for $91 million, making it the fourth most expensive team in the league. Chennai Super Kings was rated as the "most valuable team" in the Indian Premier League in 2010–11, with a brand value of $100 million. Chennai franchise bought MS Dhoni for $1.5 million and he became the costliest player of the auction.

Out of the 11 seasons played the team CSK has won three IPL titles in the year 2010, 2011 and 2018. The team also went through 2 years of suspension in the year 2016 and 2017 as the team owner was caught in the betting and providing the team’s inside information.

The 2018 IPL was the comeback for the Chennai Super Kings for which they have retained Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina & Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the player's mega-auction. The team went to win the Title for the 3rd time and became the only second team after Mumbai Indian to win the IPL trophy thrice.

The team is all set to play the IPL 2019 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni and coaching of Stephen Fleming.
